"Okay, Feisty Farmgirl, what the heck is tallow and why do you use it in your products?"
Great question and one that gets asked a lot! Well, to put it simply...tallow is a fancy word for rendered beef fat. Sure, slathering beef fat all over your body may not sound appealing at first, but don't knock it 'til you try it. Believe it or not, tallow is the original "body butter" and has been used for literally THOUSANDS of years for one simple reason...IT WORKS! And quite honestly, in my opinion the perfect "food" for your skin. Tallow is uniquely compatible with the biology of our skin and is one of the reasons why our skin is able to use it so effectively. It is a very healthy fat that contains a wide array of all the beneficial nutrients that our skin needs to repair itself. Many of the nutrients found in grass fed tallow help to promote youthful looking skin...um YES PLEASE!! Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge lover of avocado and hemp seed oils, but when it comes to skin care, tallow takes the cake hands down for me. That's probably because it contains an abundance of naturally occurring fat soluble vitamins (A,D,K,E), Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids and anti-inflammatory conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). .
Tallow is one of the main ingredients in all of our Artisan Soaps. We also use our high quality "leaf" tallow in our lip balms, pain relief ointments and deep nourishing hand balms. We have customers who have reported to us that our tallow balms have helped reduce scarring, the appearance of wrinkles and crepey skin.
Where do we get our beef fat from?
Our beef fat comes from a family farm, right here in Molalla. Their cattle are all pasture raised, hormone free, antibiotic free, happy and healthy. Being a farm girl, I believe in the nose to tail philosophy which means nothing goes to waste. When it is time to humanely harvest the cattle, we go to the ranch and collect the fat and suet from the animals then take it home to process into our high quality, nutrient rich tallow.
"I'm Vegan, does this mean that all of your products contain tallow?"
No, we only use tallow in our soaps, lip balms and pain relief ointments and some of our more deep moisturizing relief balms. In order to be transparent, we do include "beef tallow" in the list of ingredients of the products that are made using it. However, we have met more than a few Vegans that not only use tallow and goat milk based bath and beauty products, they also make them.
